JOURNALS

Today was all about taking it easy and celebrating my youngest's 16th birthday. I managed to get the three emails out first thing in the morning, which was a relief. Clearing that admin early meant I could really focus on enjoying the day without any extra work hanging over me.

For lunch, we had some special birthday food, and I must say, those hot dogs were a real treat. I know they’re not great for me, but sometimes you’ve just got to indulge. It’s important to celebrate these little milestones properly.

In the afternoon, I tried to soak in all the moments without pulling out a camera. It was nice to just be in the moment and observe how each of us interacted and celebrated. It’s funny how different generations experience birthdays and cameras. Our kids, much like I was at their age, aren’t keen on having their photos taken, which I get. But as parents, we do want those memories captured.

The day wrapped up with a family meal, which was a great way to end the celebrations. The slower pace of the day, although filled with activities, made me feel very content and happy. I’m genuinely grateful for hitting this milestone with our youngest, having the privilege to take time off to celebrate it, and yes, those hot dogs.

Reflecting on today, I feel like we’ve done well raising our children, and today marked a significant point in that journey. Here’s to another milestone celebrated, and more easy-going days like this where the focus is on family and simple joys.
