Starting to play with pixel shifting

So today was a bit of a mixed bag. I kicked things off by diving into some SVG code for my pen plotting work early this morning. I wanted to load in SVG files and see if I could manipulate them further with my existing pen plotting code. It was an early start, but I felt pretty motivated.

My big creative push of the day was working on this pixel-shifting idea with SVGs, which, honestly, might have been a tad ambitious. I found myself tangled up in some seriously horrible intersection calculations. It’s tricky and a bit maddening, but worth it if it pays off. I’m curious to see if SVGs can be manipulated to create this effect that resembles pixel sorting. It’s either going to turn into something spectacular or just a mess.

Let’s talk breaks. I did manage to stick to my 50-minute work, 10-minute break schedule, mostly. It’s a rhythm that helps keep the stress at bay and keeps me from burning out. Plus, it's a good excuse to step away from the screen and reset my brain.

A highlight was definitely making some new art with the plotter in the afternoon. It felt good to shift gears from coding to creating actual physical pieces. There’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing these lines come to life on paper. I can’t say they’re masterpieces, but they’re interesting, and that counts for something, right?

The shop link—as thrilling as it sounds—was on my radar too. I tackled some of the technical hurdles, but there's still a bit to go. I figure a good chunk of time will need to be spent on it, especially since I can’t test everything locally. It’s this back and forth with remote endpoints and logs. Not glamorous, but necessary.

I also wanted to drop a birthday message to a friend and potentially have someone visit the studio, although the timing of that was up in the air.

Lastly, I had to figure out why Kitty’s been hanging on checking what to do next—seems like a bug related to YouTube file movements. Moving files back didn’t help, so a deeper dive is on the horizon.

All in all, a productive day but sprinkled with frustrations. But hey, the newsletter and video are all set to go out tonight, so at least the week’s hustle has a rewarding end.
